The Design Museum

Recently i went to The Design Museum in London for the day, i found it really interesting as its wasn't just a boring environment, it was more engaging and unique to any museum I've been to before. It covers product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design so it was interesting to get an insight into a variety of arts and not just fashion. ''It is a space for celebrating and exploring the made and the visual, the magic of human invention, the objects that shape our lives, and the skills and forces that shape them. ''- The Guardian. It has a free permanent exhibition as well as pop up temporary ones that are a small fee, the free one was just as good though. It didn't only have professional pieces of art but it showed the public work that has been entered into competitions by students, its showed us the runner ups and winners which gave me a in-sight into what style of work they like. The building was very modern which already showed me the brand identity of them as a museum, it was a very clear and sharp building inside and out, however lots of the work was bold and colourful which paired together and worked well.

This was my favourite piece of work, it was a wall with all prize processions what most people will/would of owned. This is a lovely way of engaging with your target audience and making it art relate to them. When they created this wall they asked the public what they wanted on it, the brief was:

''There are a few things you might like to consider:

• What object do you rely on the most?
• Is there one object that could represent your identity?
• What object symbolises where you come from, or where you live now?
• If you were given £20, what object would you buy?
• Of the objects you own, which do you feel is the most practical?
• What object do you find most beautiful?
• If you could put anything in the Design Museum what would it be?
• You can choose to share either one or two objects''
''We are surrounded by objects. Millions of them fill our homes, our workplaces and the environment around us. Some objects are functional and practical, while others are decorative and sculptural. Whether we use them every day or just a few times in our lives, they are important because of the personal connection we have with them.''

These were some of the images i took. A lot of the work above was showing typography and the celebration of British signs. I particularly like the one above as it was a sign to Nottingham! The typography part of the exhibition gave me insights of the best types to use for different narratives.

First Missguided flagship store

In November 2016 Missguided FINALLY opened there first flagship store in Westfield Stratford. After seeing pictures of it all over social media i really wanted to visit it for inspiration. Missguided as a brand represent a very unapologetic feminine vibe when it comes to there advertising, and after seeing images of the store i Knew there represented this through visual merchandising as well. As we planned for our brand to have the same girly theme i thought it would be useful to take a look at the store itself for inspiration of the creative concept and execution.

I loved the shop, it was very interesting to see everything you see online in real life. It was an inviting shop with the use of there mood lighting, however because its there only shop it was very busy. The queue for the till as well as changing rooms we going all through the shop that did make me less bothered about staying there, however it cant be helped that they get a lot of business. It would be very cost effective for them to make a more stores around the country and the only store in stratford is doing very well. The stores interiors was full of pink, neon lights and sassy slogans that directly targeted there market. Considering our brand will be targeting a similar audience of young, fun women it become obvious to us what we should make are brand identity about.

Black Fashion Designers Exhibition

While I was in New York City I got the opportunity to visit the 'Black Fashion Designers' exhibition at FIT! Black designers have been long under-appreciated in the fashion industry; this exhibition gives credit to those who have received no recognition from all the work they have created and is a lesson in what the designers have dealt with to survive the industry. The exhibition features more than 60 designers, and includes 75 pieces created over the last 70 years. The exhibition includes a range of individual styles, categorised into themes which included Breaking into the industry, The Rise of the Black Fashion Design, Evening Wear, Street Influence, Activism, Menswear, Black Models, African Influence, and Experimentation

Own Photos from visiting the exhibition:

 African Influence
 Menswear

I really loved looking round this exhibition, every single garment was beautifully made with lots of intricate detail. It was also very inspiring that it was to help the designers gain the acknowledgment they should of got years ago. As the curators worked on the exhibition, says Way, “It became clear that the term ‘black designer’ is just a tiny facet of describing any designer. ‘Black’ doesn’t tell you anything about a designer. The exhibition is really about a diversity of perspective.”-http://www.vogue.com/13509888/fit-exhibition-black-fashion-designers/

MoMa

While i was in New York i visited the Museum of Modern Art. We went for on Friday evening as it was UNIQLO Free Friday Nights. It was my favorite museum of all the ones I visited as it had a range of work including sculptures, interiors, graphics, photography and much more. These images I took are all of pieces of work that inspired me, and I feel like could inspire me in the future for particular projects.

I found this really interesting, the booklets are very vintage and bold. Unlike popular magazines nowadays these are simple which means you can focus on what they're trying to communicate. It is also effective with using a black and white image with coloured text as it doesn't look too overpowering.

This is a wall of all individual posters, this really stood out to me due to the bright, vibrant colours and funky illustrations and patterns.

Above is the same image printed, however, they all have a different tint of colour. This reminded me of when i colour adjusted the same image to represent different moods. This shows how a image can show a different mood and situation with the use of different colours even if it is the same image.

Thank you for reading and seeing some of my photographs from MoMa.

London day out!

Being tourists and ootd!

This is my outfit of the day which i wore to meet Caspar. It was a really sunny day, however because i left at 7am, i didn't realise how hot it was actually going to be. I wanted to wear a comfy outfit that would look good for warm weather and if its abit cooler. The flowers in the dress match really well with the jacket and shoes, and its all affordable items.

Layered floral dress: Forever 21 £13.00
Camel suede Jacket: Primark £23.00
Beige Nike Shoes: Office £67.00
Black box bag: Primark £12.00
Sunglasses: Forever 21 £6.00

For Lunch me and my friend went to Bills. I love Bills and i really fancied halloumi (even though it was only 11.30am). Once we got sat down we just ordered our drinks and waited until we could order on the lunch/dinner menu rather than breakfast. For my drink i got the pink lemonade float, which was strawberry lemonade with a scoop of icecream; i loved this drink as it was very refreshing. For my main course i got a Halloumi burger with skinny fries and a side of halloumi sticks with the garlic dip (i was hungry and i love halloumi). I didnt manage all the fries however it was such a nice meal that lasted me the day.

As we were walking around london we past Buckingham Palace, Ive never saw it before so i was excited when i saw it. We took a few pictures then carried on walking.
